“We won’t allow him leave us like that” – PDP hellbent on bringing back Obasanjo

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, may be seemingly done with the Peoples Democratic Party, but the ruling party still believes that he has a role to play in the fold.

Obasanjo recently departed the PDP in dramatic fashion, when he held a press conference to announce his exit and also instructed that his membership card be shred to pieces, so as to convey the seriousness of his decision.

Ever since, several party leaders and chieftains, who believe that party may suffer from his exit, have reportedly been making frantic efforts to bring him back into the PDP.

While speaking to Punch newspaper on Saturday, February 21, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa Metuh said the party had not ruled out reconciliation with Obasanjo.

Metuh said: “The former President remains a revered member of our party; he is a statesman who led our party to two victories consecutively. Because of our respect for him having been the chairman of our BoT and a former President, we won’t allow him leave us like that.”

“We agree with (Sule) Lamido that we should not allow him leave like that. We will do everything within our power to bring him back. We still believe that he would work for our Presidential candidate and all other candidates of the party during the forthcoming elections,” he added.
