‘We have to work together’ – Wike tells police

Nyesom Wike, the Rivers state Governor, on Wednesday called on the state police command to remain neutral in the forthcoming legislative rerun election in the state.

Wike, who stated this when he was paid a courtesy visit by the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Francis Odesanya, noted that the people of the state will not allow state security agencies to rig the forthcoming election.

The governor called for a better synergy between the police and state government in other to protect the state better, calling on the police to remove some of its office that were compromised.

He stated that his government will continue to support the police so they can carry out their duties effectively.

Wike said, “If anyone uses instruments of state to rig elections,  we will  not fold our hands. In the past one year, we had bought over 100 vehicles for security  agencies.  We will  always support  the police  to improve  security.

“We have  to work together  to  fight crime. I am happy  with  the  level of  policing  in the state which has also reduced the level  of  crime.”
