Iconic and world famous fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, who became renowned for his haute couture designs, has died at the age of 82.

De la Renta, who is popularly known as the “sultan of suave” because of his glamorous red-carpet gowns and smart suits for ladies, has clothed every American First lady since Jacqueline Kennedy.

He has also clothed celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Anne Hathaway, amongst many others who have donned his creations.

Oscar’s death was announced by close family friends and industry colleagues, but what led to his demise could not be immediately ascertained. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, but sometime last year, he declared that he was totally clean.

His death comes a few weeks after the Paris Fashion Week in September, where the house of de la Renta announced a new designer, Peter Copping, to replace him at his eponymous brand.
