We should be worried! Seme border remains as porous as ever

by Kolapo Olapoju

Apparently, the Seme border crossing between Nigeria and Benin is more of a market place than a boundary.

From the early hours of the morning to midnight, the border town is always busy, as people cross back and forth with relative ease and little encumbrance.

Considering such an alarming fact, what’s to stop people from bringing in the Ebola virus disease into the country, yet again, just after we’ve managed to get rid of it.

What’s to stop potential terrorists from coming into the country, without little inhibition?

People move in and out of the border at ease, especially those on foot, making it difficult to identify a migrant, a tourist or a trader.

Of course, there are Police and Custom check points at the border, but that has done little to stop contraband and illegal items from being smuggled in and out Nigeria on an hourly basis.

Nigeria and Nigerians should be worried, no?
