I greeted Mama
No reply
I hailed Papa
Silence…
Was it me or them??

I greeted brother
No response
Sister met my wave of the hand
With a face void of expression
Was it me or them??

Yesterday, hushed tones graced the occasion
Making me wonder what they nay I sought at this orchestration

Its clear to me now
I spoke a language they did not understand
Indeed the white man’s land had defiled my speech
And my greeting rendered null
Till I bowed the knee, kissed the earth
Not stand to shake hands
Did I really greet…
