WriterSpeaksPoetry: Mrs Abraham

by WriterSpeaksPoetry

Mrs Abraham had just finished preparing a hot meal for her family. She’d put away pots & pans and was relaxing, trying to get some space to worship the Lord. Suddenly, hubby barges into the room, ‘Honey, we’ve got three important guests  and you need to prepare hot pounded yam and okazi with goat meat’. Mrs Abraham says, “Honey, you and your pranks… Abeg I need to pray…” Hubby doesn’t move. She looks up at him and realises he’s serious. ‘What! How could he, and without warning too’, she thinks. I’ve told him before. Pastor K has even preached not to do such a thing to your wife. Why won’t this man learn?

1 Peter 3:6 tells us to behave like our mother Sarah who called Abraham “Lord” and obeyed him not only when he behaved himself. From scripture, we know Sarah had a strong personality and influence over Abraham so it wasn’t that she was weak / afraid of him – she had recently convinced him to take Hagar to wife. But here she was having to choose to obey or not. I think she was an epitome of an helpmeet – she knew when to give an opinion and when not to. She knew when to take instruction without question. She recognised the leader in Abraham and unlike some of us, knew clearly when to follow. She left her worship session and in that hot afternoon set about Kitchen 504 – pounded yam, killing and preparing a goat and cooking okazi soup. A lesson and inspiration for today. Wife, are you sensitive in your spirit? Do you know when to obey hubby without question? Single, do you know to choose a man whose allegiance is first and only to God. Are you following?
