As a result of the anti-xenophobia protests in Nigeria, the South African consulate in the country has been closed.
In the past few days, protests have been held outside of the country’s consulate in Lagos and at the South African High Commission in Abuja.
According to South African consul general in Nigeria, Sam Monaisa, the closure will remain in force for two days.
Monaisa accused Nigerians of using social media to blow an already tense situation in South Africa out of proportion.
He also warned all South Africans in Nigeria to remain alert and not move around unnecessarily.
Back in South Africa, where the xenophobic attacks are taking place, the army has been deployed to support the police in xenophobic hotspots .
