Y! Recommends – 'Drum Song' by God's own Radikalz

by ‘Ifreke Inyang

Tunde and Wunmi Obe (T.W.O) are easily the most popular singing couple in Nigeria but ‘God’s own Radikalz’ is not too far away.  Don-L and Donna -T started miming songs early in their career then gradually progressed into writing, composing and arranging their own material. They have been ministering at their school fellowship and other concerts.

The moniker ‘God’s own Radicals’ came up when they started rap. The genre was not popular in gospel music as it was seen as too secular. Thus stepping out and doing something against the established norms made them radicals of some sort.

‘God’s own Radikalz’ employ a sound that is distinctly Nigerian, with thumping drum-lines and the use of indigenous languages  in their songs. The songs cover a wide range of subjects with emphasis on praising God as well as on daily Christian living. They released a 19-track debut album titled ‘Under Construction’ in the last quarter of 2010 and early this year released the ‘Unleashed mix tape Volume 1’.

The Drum Song is the first single from their forthcoming sophomore album due to be released in 2012. The song produced by E Twinz (who has produced other acts like Ruggedman, Mode Nine and Terry Tha Rapman) is sure to have you nodding your head and tapping your feet as you echo the infectious hook.
