Dogara makes Gbajabiamila an offer… to end the leadership crisis

Perhaps, the camp of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, is fighting based on the principle that the Southwest should not have two key leaders in the green chamber.

Or maybe, the Speaker, his backers and loyalists, simply don’t want the anointed son of the All Progressives Congress, Femi Gbajabiamila, to hold any key positions in the House.

Regardless of whatever their motive is, they have tabled a fairly decent offer today, July 8, and in the spirit of compromise, perhaps it may be wise for the Gbajabiamila camp to accept it and end the leadership dispute in the Federal House of Representatives.

Vanguard reports that the camp supporting Hon. Yakubu Dogara has decided to concede the position of the House leader to the camp supporting Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

However, there’s a little catch- which is that the House leader will neither come from the Southwest nor the Northeast in respect to the spirit of equity and federal character as both zones have occupied their slots.

The spokesman of the Dogara group Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, made the disclosure of their terms of compromise a few hours ago, in Abuja.

Jibrin stated that after the reconciliatory meeting headed by the immediate former Speaker and Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, they decided to concede to Gbajabiamila’s group the position of House Leader.

He added that if the offer gets turned down by the Gbajabiamila camp, they will have no choice than to conduct election on the floor of the House by the APC members in accordance with the provisions of the House Rules.

Jibrin was quoted to have said: “In line with with equity and federal character, whoever is being nominated must not come from the Southwest and Northeast in line with our strong belief in the principle of equity and federal character.”
