asuu-strike

Hi all,

It’s been another busy week with news headlines swirling around and becoming almost too numerous to keep up with but here we are again with the major highlights of the week.

We started the week on a rather interesting note when musician Burna Boy stripped down to his briefs during his performance at the Felabration concert in honour of late maestro Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Burna Boy gave an ‘eye-popping’ performance at the close of the Felabration concert new Afrika shrine yesterday.

The pop sensation came on stage clothed but stripped down to his briefs to the amazement of the crowd.

Another musician whose performance at an event this week was also a bit of a shock  was Wizkid who reportedly had to perform before a practically non-existent audience.

Wizkid and his camp have since denied the authenticity of the photos and said that the concert did not flop.

A man who was beating up his wife in Akure, the Ondo State capital, met his untimely death as the 16-year old mother of two, in a bid to defend herself, stabbed her husband and killed him in the process.

A domestic dispute between a wife and her husband has resulted in the death of the latter in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Patrick Ogu, 35, was allegedly stabbed to death by his 16-year-old wife and mother of his two children, Ebere while he was giving her a beating.

The incident occurred at the couple’s residence at No.70, Ijapo extension residence in Akure at about 5a.m on Thursday morning. Ebere has since fled and is on the run with her two children.

Kanye West is set to officially join the family of Ks as he finally popped the question to his girlfriend and mother of his daughter, Kim Kardashian.

Also in the world of entertainment, Nigerian musician Davido obviously got tired of all the criticism over his multiple videos for his hit track “Skelewu” and so he sent a message to his fans and foes alike. See below:

The challenges of the Baraje-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were increased by one after reports of the planned demolition of their sealed-off secretariat.

However, while one official of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), said the building would be demolished, another said it was only sealed off and would stay that way. Who to believe? We don’t know but time will certainly tell.

Of course, we have news of the ongoing ASUU strike. The good news is that it will eventually end, the bad news is that we don’t know when. However, according to the Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, the strike will end in a few months.

According to Wike, “The Federal Government is very concerned about the state of public tertiary institutions in the country. The Federal Government is really worried about the ongoing strike of ASUU and the strike would be resolved in a few months.”

Still on ASUU, the Senate President, David Mark, revealed that the academic body is demanding 1.5 trillion naira before the strike can be called off. Mark further said that does that reached the agreement with ASUU “did not know their left from right” to which the lecturers replied that President Jonathan was party to the agreement signed in 2009. And the back and forth continues.

Concerned citizens who want the strike to end have appended their signatures to a petition to put a stop to the almost four-month old strike. The petition was signed by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and other Nigerians home and abroad.

Speaking of abroad, on the foreign scene, an American Senator has blamed the faulty Obamacare website on “Nigerian email scammers”.

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) gestures on stage as he is welcomed home by supporters in Houston.

Sen. Ted Cruz joked Nigerian email scammers were responsible for the technical glitches that have prevented users from registering online for Obamacare.

“You may have noticed that all the Nigerian email scammers have become a lot less active lately,” he said at a gathering of Tea Party supporters Monday, “They all have been hired to run the Obamacare website,” he added

As expected, Nigerians didn’t take the comment too kindly and we should be expecting an apology soon.

Following the uproar after her purchase of two bullet proof cars at allegedly inflated prices, Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, who is currently being probed by two committees, has flown to Israel on official duty and also for the annual Christian pilgrimage.

Extremely unchristian behaviour has been attributed to an Abuja pastor after it was alleged that he raped three primary school pupils who were his students.

Emmanuel Mathew, 50, was arraigned after it was alleged that he had raped three school pupils at the Mpape area of the FCT.

Matthew, who is reportedly the general overseer of The Choice Bible Church located in the same area, is also the proprietor of the primary school where his victims schooled.

The prosecutor, DSP Stanley Nwodo, told the court that the accused raped two seven-year-olds and a nine-year-old pupil within the school premises, on different occasions.

And to round off the week, a curious piece of advice was given to men by an expert as they were told to cease and desist from going near their wives’ breasts while they’re breastfeeding. Will they listen? Your guess is as good as ours.

That was our interesting line-up for the week. Don’t forget to follow us and stay connected for all the latest and hottest news around the globe. We aren’t called the number one internet newspaper for nothing.

Goodbye and have a great weekend.
