You Tweet!

By Ifreke Inyang
Twitter was the topic for the last show of Y! TV (Rubbin’ Minds): the guests were
entertainment and media professionals who know how how to use Twitter well. There
was Nigezie’s Andre Blaze, who is @AndreBlaze on twitter, Hip Hop artiste Kel Ohia
(@kelonline, Marketing expert Deyi Ayowole, with the handle @bold_ent and rapper,
Afolabi ‘beazy’ Durotoye who tweets with @yoitsbeazy. As one of the presenters, it was
probably the first time on Nigerian television that guests were allowed to bring their
mobile phones on set and actually use them – tweeting!
The presenters: Chude Jideonwo (@Chude) and Phoenix Osinuga (@phoenixosinuga).
For those who were expecting to be educated on what twitter is, the guests impatiently
brushed past that. Deji was quick to say that people don’t give a true reflection of their
reality on twitter and that wasn’t really debated.
Responding to the presenters’ question about being unable to build real friendships
Andre’s opinion, twitter can not be underestimated as children have been born off
relationships that started on twitter! And the reason is because, in his words, twitter
is like Big Brother without cameras. One thing twitter is primarily noted for is the
randomness of tweets. Like one of the guests said, Twitter is Big Brother without the
cameras.
With witty repartees (Andre Blaze to views: Don’t follow @Ebuka on Twitter! Andre
Blaze to Deji: Deji is like the tele-marketer no one wants to pick up the phone for! Kel
to Andre Blaze: You don’t show your sadness on Twitter? Ha! Beazy to Chude: The only
reason people picked up their phones when people called to beg for money in those
days was because there was no Caller ID! ) stringing the show along, the guests were
able to give some tips.
1. Many of us may live to regret the things we say on Twitter now, because
no one has ever done this before and so no one knows how this will go.
2. Nothing is really secret on Twitter because even if your Tweet is protected,
someone can Retweet!
3. “When you want to use Twitter for business, open an account strictly
for business. Don’t mix your personal randomness with business.”
4. Some things aren’t meant for Twitter, darling: go get a diary!
But no matter the argument, Beazy mounted the last stand for the Twitter
addicts: “twitter is the future!”
We’ll see about that.
