The world received with shock the news of a Malaysian Airlines plane which went missing with hundreds of passengers on board.

The Boeing 777 aircraft took off from the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, and was heading to Beijing, the capital of China.

There have been varying reports about what could have happened to the plane ranging from suggestions of terrorism to fears that it could have crashed.

Here are 10 things you need to know about the missing plane:

1, The plane was said to be carrying a total of 239 passengers before it disappeared almost without a trace.

2, The plane disappeared around the south of Vietnam over the gulf of Thailand.

3, Two of the passengers were discovered to have been travelling with stolen passports which led to fears of terrorism.

4, Five passengers who were checked into the flight did not board and their luggage was removed.

5, Speculations have it that the plane might have turned back before it disappeared.

6, Some reports have it that the plane might have disintegrated at about 35,000 feet leading to a lack of debris.

7, Vietnam has said that it might have found the plane’s tail and the door but this has yet to be confirmed.

8, Eight nations have joined the search for the missing plane with 40 ships, 34 aircraft and a submarine being deployed in the hunt.

9, Family members of some of the passengers have said that the mobile phones of their missing loved one are still ringing.

10, The plane went missing on March 8, 3 days ago today.
