Petrol and diesel prices surge 86% as fuel costs soar

Fuel prices have soared in Nigeria, with petrol and diesel reaching their highest average levels in 2026 as of September 22, according to PriceandPromo.
Petrol rose to ₦1,378 per litre, an 80.8% increase from its January 13 level, while diesel rose to ₦1,899 per litre, up 91.8%. Together, both products recorded an average rise of 86.3%.
The report said prices remained relatively stable between April and July after a sharp rise in March before increasing again in August and September. It linked the latest rise to volatility in global energy markets.
Nigeria jumps to 8th in Africa’s investment risk ranking

Nigeria has climbed four places to eighth in Bloomberg’s 2026 Investment Risk-O-Meter, becoming Africa’s biggest riser as President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms improved its investment appeal.
The country moved ahead of Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya and Namibia after recording stronger results in economic strength, fiscal strength and external vulnerability. The ranking assesses the investment risks of 19 African economies.
Despite the improvement, Nigeria continues to face high public debt, inflation, rising living costs, infrastructure gaps and foreign exchange pressures. Mauritius ranked as Africa’s most investable market, while South Africa dropped one place and Botswana fell two.
Tinubu declares three days’ mourning after NAF crash

President Bola Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning for Nigerian Air Force personnel who died in an aircraft crash in Ondo State on Monday. He also ordered the national flag to fly at half-mast nationwide.
The NAF ATR-42 aircraft crashed near a naval base in Igbokoda, Ilaje LGA, while travelling from Benin City to Lagos on a routine mission. It was carrying 25 passengers and seven crew members.
Tinubu directed the Air Force to investigate the crash and identify measures to prevent future incidents. The presidency said the names of those who died would be released after their families had been notified.
Mike Edwards calls out Carter Efe and demands a boxing showdown

Former BBNaija housemate and professional boxer Mike Edwards has challenged content creator Carter Efe to a boxing match following Efe’s recent victory over singer Speed Darlington.
Edwards accused Efe of avoiding him despite having discussed a potential fight before Efe’s debut. He said Efe has since fought three times, while he has fought only once.
“Quit fighting these bums and accept a real challenge,” Edwards wrote. He also urged Efe to give fans better value and revealed that he had contacted Balmoral Promotions about the proposed fight. Edwards will first fight in Dubai on November 7.
Ruth Kadiri raises alarm over fake products in Nigeria

Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has urged NAFDAC to intensify checks on products sold across Nigeria, warning that counterfeit goods pose a serious threat to public health.
In an Instagram video, she called for stricter inspections and punishment for those producing or selling fake food, drinks, medicines, cosmetics and household items. Kadiri also recounted buying garlic that turned green after blending.
The actress urged consumers to check expiry dates and NAFDAC registration numbers before purchasing products, especially items given to children. She warned that fake medicines could leave patients seriously ill and called on authorities to protect Nigerians from dangerous counterfeit goods.
