Elechi Chiyerum, a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been reported dead at the orientation camp in Kaiama, Kolokuma-Opokoma, Bayelsa State.

Chiyerum, 27 was reportedly ill before the commencement of the scheme and had been unable to participate in most camp activities.

The Ignatius Azuru University of Education, Port Harcourt graduate was reportedly found vomiting in her hostel.

An NYSC official said the deceased refused to disclose her health status.

A source also said she was immediately taken to the sick bay when she was found vomiting and was later referred to an hospital in the state.

“She was taken to a hospital in Yenagoa. Unfortunately, before getting to the hospital she died. She died at about 9:00 p.m., having spent only five days at the camp. We are pained and shocked by the news of her death,” the source said.

This brings to total three corps members who have been reported dead at various NYSC camps.

Ifedolapo Oladepo had died at the Kano NYSC camp while Ukeme Monday, a First Class graduate also died in Zamfara NYSC camp.
