Following yesterday’s double bombing, where over 30 people were killed in Jos, the Archbishop of Jos has implored the federal government to show concern for the plight of poor Nigerians.
The twin bomb attacks occurred on Thursday, December 11, in a crowded marketplace in Jos, Plateau state.
The blasts targeted Jos’s commercial district, near the Terminus bus station. The first explosion took place at an outdoor food stand. The second blast hit the marketplace.
While speaking to BBC, Archbishop Ben Kwashi revealed that majority of the victims were poor and defenceless, adding that ordinary people needed more protection.
He said: “Government must step up, to show that it cares about the weak, about the poor, about those who have no means at all in the society.”
Furthermore, the Anglican archbishop stated that the bombers would not succeed in creating religious divisions in the city, as it was clear they did not represent Nigeria’s Muslim population.
