Authorities in Washington state are trying to piece together exactly what led to the discovery of a man found naked and lying in the middle of the road early Tuesday morning. Adding to the mystery is the fact that the 62-year-old man’s penis had been severed from his body.

According to authorities in Clarkston, Washington, the unidentified man was found about 4:20 a.m. Tuesday lying in the road in the 1400 block of 5th Street.

When authorities found him, his penis was severed.

The man was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center where he was treated. He is expected to survive.

Police were able to find the man’s severed penis and deliver it to the hospital for possible reattachment. It’s unclear whether doctors were able to reattach the penis.

In other severed-penis cases, doctors have been able to reattach amputated genitalia, most notably, the case of John Wayne Bobbitt.

On June 23, 1993, Bobbitt’s now-ex-wife, Lorena, woke up in the middle of the night, went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and cut off her husband’s entire penis. She then drove to a nearby field and threw the penis out the window of her car.

Realizing the severity of what she’d just done, Bobbitt called 9-1-1 to tell authorities where they could find her then-husband’s severed penis.

After an ‘exhaustive’ search of the field, a police officer managed to track down Bobbitt’s severed penis and deliver it to the hospital where he was being treated. After nine hours of surgery, doctors were able to reattach Bobbitt’s penis.

Bobbitt’s penis apparently is fully functioning – just a year after it was reattached, he appeared in a porn film titled ‘John Wayne Bobbitt: Uncut.’ Two years later, Bobbitt starred in another adult film called ‘Frankenpenis.’

The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office says the severing of the man’s penis was not an accident, but that there is no threat to the community.

The man’s condition is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
