Nigeria’s 1st international photography festival holds in Lagos

“Lagos Photo aims to establish a community for contemporary photography that will unite local and international artists, through images that encapsulate individual experiences and identities from across all of Africa. It also aims to use the medium of photography to address important social issues in Africa and capture the essence of Lagos State from a holistic and historical perspective,” says Azu Nwagbogu ofafricanartists.org.

To this end, the African Artists’ Foundation presents Lagos Photo, the first international photography festival in Nigeria.

Artists who will take part in the event are:

George Osodi, Kadir van Lohuizen, Lard Buurman, Juul Hondius, Hans Wilschut, Viviane Sassen, Andrea Sultiens, Henk Wildschut, Natasha Libbert, Jan-Joseph Stok, Mario Macilau, Angele Essamba, Edgar Cleijne, Anoek Steketee, Aisha Dapchi, Emeke Obanor, Olayinka Stephens, Tam Fiofori, Adolphus Opara, Andrew Esiebo, Akintunde Akinleye, Toye Gbade, Caline Chagoury, Cristina Baldan and Lara ter Veen.

The festival will feature the latest in outdoor exhibitions, indoor exhibitions, as well as a master’s photography course for budding photographers and a photographic workshop for children.

Lagos Photo, 2010 is sponsored by: Eko Hotel and Suites, Eko Atlantic, the Mondriaan Foundation, the Embassy of The Kingdom of the Netherlands and Etisalat, and is supported by the British Council, the Civic Center, Lifehouse, Center for Contemporary Art Lagos (CCA), Nigerian Breweries Plc.
