Sexual misconduct: Investigations stalled again as U.S. Ambassador shuns House of Reps

The investigation by the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Ethics and Privileges and Foreign Affairs into the alleged sexual misconduct by three lawmakers, Samuel Ikon, Mohammed Gololo and Mark Gbillah, in the U.S. in April this year, was again stalled on Wednesday.

This is due to the failed appearance by the outgoing US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle to honor the panel’s invitation for the second time.

The U.S. Envoy, who wrote a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives accusing the three lawmakers of sexual misconduct, was expected to appear before the joint panel to provide video evidence for the alleged crime.

He had claimed that the lawmakers’ action brought disrepute to the U.S. parliament.

He was meant to appear last week Thursday July 14th but failed to honor the panel’s invitation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, who was also to appear before the panel, sent in a letter explaining he had to be at the Federal Executive council which holds today.

The alleged misconduct was said to have taken place when some lawmakers went to the United States of America for training in April, this year. It was alleged that the three accused lawmakers were soliciting for sex from prostitutes.
