TICKER: It’s a lie, I am not after corrupt governors – GEJ

The Presidency on Wednesday in Abuja refuted newspaper reports that President Goodluck Jonathan was after some corrupt governors.

The President was alleged to have made the statement through Vice President Namadi Sambo at the launch of a book titled “Reforming the Unreformable”.

A statement issued by Malam Umar Sani, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President, said the President never made any such statement to any governor.

“The President, who was represented by the Vice President at the launch of a book titled `Reforming the Unreformable’ never made any such statement referring to any governor.

“Rather, the statement in question reads in part `on the governance front, we are going after those who commit economic crimes and corrupt practices with impunity’.

“In the light of the foregoing therefore, we wish to draw the attention of all those mediums, which reported Mr President’s statement inappropriately, to address it properly and reflect the correct statement.

“This will set the records straight by not misleading members of the public and casting aspersions on governors.”

The statement described governors as partners in progress in the implementation of Federal Government’s transformation agenda.

The book, `Reforming the Unreformable’ was written by Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance.
