Mimiko blocked from entering government house by angry workers

The Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, was on Thursday prevented from gaining access to his office by protesting workers who blocked the entrance of the state government house.

The workers have been on strike since last week over unpaid 5-month salary arrears.

The governor thereafter came down from his vehicle to plead with the workers to suspend the strike, saying that the state was cash strapped and couldn’t pay the backlog of salaries.

Speaking on behalf of the protesting workers, the state chairman of Joint Negotiating Council, Sunday Adeleye, said the civil servants will continue the strike if government failed to pay the salaries owed.

Workers also protested across the state capital, Akure, carrying placards and chanting songs to express their grievances.
