Son of late Afrobeat legend, Femi Kuti, who has been nominated for the 2014 Grammy awards in far away United States, will not be attending the prestigious ceremony.

His sister, Yeni Kuti, who confirmed the remark, said the respected singer has decided not to show up at the event because his expectation of winning may be cut short again.

It was gathered that the Afrobeat singer would be greatly disappointed if he does not win the award, which has eluded him over the years.

According to a report by HipHopWorld:

“It is not easy going to an award like that. I guess he’ll be too anxious before the day and greatly disappointed if he doesn’t win,” Femi’s older sister, Yeni told us on the phone.

Yeni, who also confirmed that she will be representing her brother at the revered awards event, stated that the media will go a long way in helping the passionate saxophonist bring home the coveted Grammy award.

“It is in the hands of people like you that make enough noise”, she said.

Femi Kuti has been nominated for the Grammy awards four times in the space of 10 years in the ‘Best World Music Album‘ category and lost to other contenders three times. He got his first nomination in 2003, then 2010, 2011 and now 2014.

He’s nominated in the same category this year for his ‘No Place For My Dream’ album and will be slogging it out with other nominees like French group Gipsy Kings, South African male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Indian musician Ravi Shankar.

The 2014 Grammy Awards is scheduled to hold at The Staple Centre in Los Angeles on January 26.
