A 10-year-old Chicago boy is recovering after being shot as an innocent bystander on the West Side Wednesday night.

Police tell ABC Chicago the shooting happened in the 900 block of North Waller Avenue around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Police have conflicting versions of what happened, though cops believe the boy wasn’t an intended target of any kind. According to the Tribune, one account given to police states two men were handling a gun nearby when it went off; another indicates the men were fighting and shots were fired.

The boy was taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the buttocks, according to the Sun-Times. The boy’s mother said his condition was stable.

Police did not have a suspect in custody as of Thursday morning.

A Pilsen man was also shot in an unrelated incident Wednesday night, DNAinfo Chicago reports. The 25-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in the 1800 block of South Carpenter Street around 7:40 p.m.

A 20-year-old man was also injured around 10:05 p.m. in the Hegewisch neighborhood after reports of a shooting. However, police believe the man’s injuries were likely from a knife wound.
