Graduatepro makes history, launches first-of-its kind initiative to tackle youth unemployment in Africa

Graduatepro has launched “I’m A Graduate, Now What?”, the Audio Experience, an innovative audiobook produced by Ezenwa Ogbonna, also known as Bigfoot West.  Featuring a cast and crew of close to a hundred notable Nigerian influencers, celebrities and voice actors, I’m A Graduate Now What? leverages original music, drama and narration to ensure the engagement and transformation of today’s youth.

To ensure the effectiveness of the product upon release, I’m A Graduate Now What? scripts were reviewed by a team of youth development experts at the Centre for Youth Development Service in Lusaka, Zambia headed by Victor Paa Kwesi Mensah before the commencement of production. The content is presented in four segments containing 51 chapters – The Journey to Self-discovery, Planning Your Career, Finding Meaningful Work and Staying Ahead with a charge to young people to develop a roadmap for themselves.

While speaking at the launch which took place in Lagos recently, Ms. Naomi Lucas, the project visionary highlighted four reasons why I’m A Graduate Now What? is a necessity, “Critical thinking is largely, a dormant ability in young people due to an educational system that discourages and sometimes punishes curiosity and interrogation.’ Speaking further, she said, ‘Young people have more capacity than we give them credit for and they must be empowered to make their own decisions. She also reiterated the need for teaching methods to reflect the realities of learning in the 21st century and charged Nigeria to set the pace for tackling youth unemployment in Africa.

Speaking on the format, she highlighted the benefits of audio over other formats such as video or print – its portability, accessibility to people with some disabilities such as dyslexia, minimal disruption, alignment with youth culture and low data consumption.

On what she hopes to achieve with the project, she said “The whole idea behind collaborating with 56 celebrities and influencers is to spotlight the problem and exploit the collective power of all narrators to get young people to pay attention. I’m A Graduate Now What? was created to be an indispensable resource for young people, trainers, youth clusters/ programs, online libraries, work-readiness, live skills, employability and entrepreneurship programs at the private, state and federal levels.

I’m A Graduate Now What? The Audio Experience is currently published on 14 digital platforms including iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, Boomplay, MTN Music Plus, Cloud9 and Nerveflo amongst several others.
