Nigerian historic Bobsled Team features on Ellen Degeneres Show (WATCH)

The Nigerian Bobsled team who pushed through, shocking the world to qualify for the winter Olympics were featured on America’s most popular TV Show, Ellen on December 4.

Why it matters: In Calgary on Wednesday, November 15, the ladies made international headlines when they completed their fifth required race on the windy ice racks to book a place at the forthcoming 2018 Winter Olympics taking place from February 9 to 25, 2018 in Pyeongchang County, South Korea.

The members of the team include Nigerian Olympian and team pilot, Seun Adigun and her brakemen, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga and the team is nicknamed ‘The Ice Blazers’.

They talked about how they passed hurdles to become the first African team to compete for the Bobsled medals at the Winter Olympics.

Their victory has been the subject of media buzz widely-reported in global media platforms such as Time, Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, Vogue, Buzzfeed, Al Jazeera, CNN and BBC. The Nigerian girls have attracted sponsorship support from global brands Visa, Toyota, Under Armour, Lazer, Belton AG and Kwese TV.

It is also understood that there is now a fierce battle among several international organisations who wish to get their film rights, as confirmed by the Head of Sports at Temple Management Company (TMC), Koye Sowemimo.
