Dangote Refinery raises petrol price to ₦1,400
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has explained its latest petrol price increase, citing the higher cost of earlier crude oil purchases and the lengthy process of sourcing, shipping, and delivering crude to the facility.
Petrol prices have now climbed to between ₦1,310 and ₦1,400 per litre across Nigeria. Prices are around ₦1,310 in Lagos and Ogun, while consumers in northern states and areas farther from the refinery pay ₦1,350 or more.
The refinery raised its PMS gantry price by ₦65, from ₦1,200 to ₦1,265 per litre, on August 29. It was the third increase in eight days, despite a decline in global crude oil prices amid tensions between the United States and Iran.
FG plans six medical simulation centres as medical admissions target 20,000
The federal government plans to establish world-class medical simulation centres across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones as it targets 20,000 annual medical school admissions within the next three years. The initiative aims to expand the country’s healthcare workforce and improve practical training.
Education Minister Tunji Alausa disclosed this while receiving the report of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Medical Simulation Committee. He said the centres would train medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy and other healthcare students to international standards.
According to Alausa, the centres will support the government’s plan to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare workforce under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The move comes amid concerns over the continued migration of Nigerian-trained healthcare professionals.
Tinubu begins three-week working holiday in Europe
President Bola Tinubu will begin a three-week leave today, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga has announced. Tinubu is expected to leave Abuja later on Sunday for Europe, where he will spend his break on what the presidency described as a “working vacation”.
According to Onanuga, the president’s first stop will be London, United Kingdom. He is expected to return to Nigeria after the break and join preparations for the January 2027 election campaign.
Tinubu also spent 10 days on a working holiday in the UK and France in September 2025. His latest leave comes shortly after Vice-President Kashim Shettima concluded his own two-week vacation.
Finneas marries Claudia Sulewski in wedding ceremony officiated by Billie Eilish
Grammy-winning singer and producer Finneas has married his longtime girlfriend, YouTuber and actress Claudia Sulewski. The couple exchanged vows on Saturday, August 30, at San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California, according to TMZ.
The intimate ceremony was officiated by Finneas’ sister and musical collaborator, Billie Eilish, with their parents also in attendance. Celebrity guests included Justin and Hailey Bieber, Emma Chamberlain, Kristen Bell, Jason Sudeikis and Rachel Sennott. Sulewski wore four Oscar de la Renta outfits throughout the wedding weekend.
The couple got engaged in September 2025 after seven years together. They announced the news on Instagram with a series of romantic photos, including one showing Finneas proposing to Sulewski at sunset.
Justus Kelley makes history as first married mother to win Miss USA
Virginia’s Justus Kelley, 31, has been crowned Miss USA 2026, making history as the first married mother to win the national title. She claimed the crown on Thursday, August 27, at the 75th edition of the pageant in Miami, also becoming the first woman over 30 to win the competition.
Kelley’s historic victory follows major changes to the pageant’s eligibility rules in 2023. The changes removed the age limit and allowed married women and mothers to compete, creating an opportunity for contestants previously excluded from the competition.
Themed “75 Years of Icons”, this year’s pageant featured 50 contestants from across the United States. Kelley’s win highlights the changing face of beauty competitions, showing that marriage, motherhood and age do not have to limit a woman’s ambitions.
