NLC speaks out against petrol price hike, says it is ‘unacceptable’
The Nigeria Labour Congress has condemned the latest petrol price increase, describing it as “avoidable and unacceptable”. The union also questioned why the Federal Government has not done enough to ensure the Dangote Petroleum Refinery receives sufficient supplies of Nigerian crude.
NLC acting General Secretary Benson Upah raised the concerns in an interview on Tuesday. He warned that the price hike would worsen the financial pressure on ordinary Nigerians, particularly workers and low-income households already struggling with rising transport and food costs.
Upah said the increase would add to the growing hardship facing Nigerians, describing life for the average citizen as increasingly difficult. He urged the government to take steps to prevent further increases and ease the burden on struggling households.
JAMB, WAEC clarify ₦4,000 O’Level verification fee for admission seekers
Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will pay ₦4,000 only once to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination O’Level results, JAMB and WAEC have clarified.
The two bodies said candidates whose admissions are coordinated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results through the approved platform. Once verified, the results will be sent to their chosen institutions for admission screening and processing.
JAMB and WAEC stressed that candidates will not need to pay another verification fee to their institutions. They also directed tertiary institutions to use the results transmitted by JAMB for all relevant admission and administrative processes.
Lagos households to get 36gb monthly for joining TV audience survey
Some households in Lagos State will receive 36GB of mobile data each month for participating in Nigeria’s new television audience measurement programme. The initiative is being introduced by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) under the FreeTV brand.
Information Minister Mohammed Idris, represented by ARCON Director-General Olalekan Fadolapo, announced the development at a briefing in Lagos. He said the system would boost investor confidence, encourage quality local content and create more opportunities in Nigeria’s media and creative industries.
The programme will replace the traditional diary-based system with Peoplemeter technology that automatically tracks viewing habits. Participating households will receive Peoplemeter devices and data-enabled routers, while the technical partner, FMEIL, said they would initially receive 36GB of data per month as an incentive.
Femi Adebayo announces plans for ‘Seven Doors’ sequel
Nollywood actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has revealed plans to make a sequel to his directorial debut, ‘Seven Doors’. The six-part miniseries was released in December 2024 and went on to earn several nominations and awards, including at the AMVCA and Best of Nollywood Awards.
Speaking on VJ Adams Live, Adebayo said he regularly rewatches his previous films before starting new projects. He explained that he is currently revisiting ‘Seven Doors’ as he prepares for its sequel, following the same approach he used for ‘Jagun Jagun’ and ‘Ageshinkole’.
The actor also said he reads both positive and negative audience comments to identify areas for improvement. In 2025, ‘Seven Doors’ won Best Lead Actor and Best Lead Actress at the AMVCA.
Tupac murder case: Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis found guilty after 30 years
A jury has found former gang leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of orchestrating the 1996 murder of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur. Tupac was shot in a drive-by attack in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, and died six days later while on life support.
Davis, 63, was arrested in September 2024 and faced a murder charge involving the use of a deadly weapon in connection with gang activity. Prosecutors argued that he supplied the gun used by his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, to attack Tupac following an earlier confrontation.
After about three hours of deliberation, the 12-member jury found Davis guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon and intent to promote or assist a criminal gang. He now faces a possible maximum sentence of life in prison.
