And another one! FG promises power in four weeks

by Isi Esene

There’s a new deadline in operation in the power sector. The Vice President, Namadi Sambo, has directed that all challenges plaguing the transmission and distribution of electricity in Nigeria should be resolved in four weeks.

He gave the directive during a meeting of the board of Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) on Tuesday in Abuja.

To show his seriousness in solving the power challenges, he said there shall be another meeting next week of the Director General of Bureau of Public Procurement, Managing Director of NDPHC, Minister of Power and other stakeholders in the power sector.

In order to address the challenges of constant gas supply to the power plants, Sambo directed that all companies interested in the supply of gas to power plants should be allowed to express their interest.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, however warned that the FG will not condone any contractors who are not keeping to the timeline of their project completion.

The meeting went on to approve the supply of parts to National Integrated Power Projects in Calabar, Cross River, and Egbema, Imo State. It also mandated all NIPP projects to be completed by July next year.

Nigerians are patiently waiting for the fulfillment of these promises.

  1. Steady supply of electric power would be a big jump for Nigeria. A very big jump.

However, the victory over corruption is the defining point, the turning point.

There is hope and I believe steady power supply is very achievable.
