Bad father: Man arrested after abandoning his bloodied 4-year-old son at the scene of a car crash

Fabiani Arroyo, 40, is accused of getting into a hit-and-run and abandoning his 4-year-old son at the crash site.

It’s hard to say if Angelo Fabiani Arroyo is a worse father or driver.

California Highway Patrol officers arrested Arroyo, 40, on Tuesday evening for allegedly causing a hit-and-run accident. But he didn’t just flee the scene of Sunday’s crash, he allegedly left behind his bloodied 4-year-old son.

The accident happened in San Diego when Arroyo lost control of his 2004 Nissan Titan, which was hauling a small water-craft trailer, and hit a guardrail and palm tree before ending up on its side on top of a concrete retaining wall, 10news.com reported.

Arroyo’s last fatherly act was to free his son who’d been strapped into a child safety seat. But when Arroyo unfastened him, the boy fell 10 feet onto a concrete sidewalk. At that point, Arroyo ran off while witnesses tended to the wounded child prior to the arrival of medics, Fox5SanDiego.com reported.

Eyewitness Veronica Simmons described the moment Arroyo’s son dropped from the wreckage to NBCSanDiego.com: “The baby just, it just fell, it just ‘Boom!’ It was the most awful sound you want to hear.”

The child was taken to a local children’s hospital for treatment of serious head trauma and other injuries, Fox5SanDiego.com reported.

The boy’s mother has requested the hospital not release updates on her son’s medical condition, NBCSanDiego.com reported.

Arroyo was charged with hit-and-run with injury and child endangerment, ImperialBeach-Patch.com reported.
