Arms fraud scandal: Panel forwards new list to EFCC

A panel set up by the federal government to investigate arms procurement between 2007 and 2014 on Tuesday forwarded another report to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

It would be recalled that the panel’s first report, submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari, led to the arrest of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki and other top former public officials in the infamous Dasukigate scandal.

The recent report submitted to the EFCC, is believed to contain names of Nigerian Army officers that misappropriated arms funds.

The said officers will also be investigated by the anti-corruption agency.

According to Punch Newspapers, among the names listed are three former service chiefs and other serving and retired senior army officers.

The media report also quoted a source who said: “The commission now has the list of those Army officers involved in the arms deals.”

“They have not started acting on it because they are still doing the one on the Nigerian Air Force. The commission is still treating it as a secret for now. The list is long, we learnt that there are three former service chiefs there but nobody can give you those names there.”
