Beverly Naya is a whole different vibe in the trailer for Lockdown, a heist thriller directed by Ladi Akinyosoye and produced by Labake Akinyosoye. The movie itself is one of the few genre films of the year so far, an interesting departure from the churn of hollow comedies flooding our theaters.
“We wanted to make a movie different from most films that are being shown now,” Ladi Akinyosoye said in a statement to Guardian Life, ”An action film, and also at the same time, a family oriented movie, with a strong female protagonist at the centre. Nollywood is always pushing the boundary, so we crafted a good story, got a stellar cast, a solid crew and I believe we’ve made something special. It has its thrills, its suspenseful moments and its laughs and we hope everyone enjoys it.”
Lockdown is about a group of people trapped during a heist at the Quarterly Bank of Commerce, perpetuated by a criminal gang determined to open the vault before daybreak. Beverly Naya works in QBC and Kalu Ikeagwu is her boss who burdens her with work on the night of the heist. The trailer has interesting thriller beats and moves with speedy pace. Naya, who has been typecasted for long as a uppity seductress (The Wedding Party) or just glossy-tongued material girl, explores a different range of her acting chops.
According to trailer she’s got military training, and might be the best bet for those who are trapped in surviving the night. The movie also stars Kelechi Udegbe, Linda Ejiofor, Jude Chukwuka, Bucci Franklin, Harry Dorgu, Jerry Bakpa, Tomi Fabamigbe and Tunbosun Aiyedehin. September 2o can’t come soon enough.
When Bernard Dayo isn’t writing about pop culture, he’s watching horror movies and reading comics and trying to pretend his addiction to Netflix isn’t a serious condition.
