Bode George and an unholy celebration

by TY Fajj

When did we become a country that celebrates thieves?

I was driving through Kingsway road,  Ikoyi yesterday, 26th February,  and there was a lot of traffic, which is quite strange for a weekend. Then I noticed banners, loads of buses parked, people wearing branded t-shirts, some others in aso-ebi. I thought it was a wedding.

To my shock I realised it was a celebration for the release of Bode George. Last I remember he was imprisoned in Kirikiri for several criminal activities in public office, so why was his release being celebrated? To worsen the situation his party – the Peoples Democratic Party – proudly displayed their logo on the banner calling him their National Leader.

I was confused, questions flooded my mind. How can Bode George be the leader of our ruling party, a party seemingly fighting against corruption; what does that tell us?

That they even have the audacity to throw a party for his release is maddening. This is truly the time for change, for we cannot continue to watch our so-called leaders make fools of us.

The time for change is now. Stand up and be counted. Take the lead, be the change and let’s rid our country of all this rubbish. Enough is truly Enough.
