Breaking: Bolaji Abdullahi dropped as Youth Minister, confirmed as substantive Sports Minister

by Stanley Azuakola

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan has shed some load off Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi by dropping him as Youth Minister while confirming him as the substantive Sports Minister. Mallam Abdullahi had been handling the two positions ever since Yusuf Suleiman stepped down as Sports Minister in order to run for the Sokoto State gubernatorial elections in December 2011.

The minister, who started on a very positive note as Youth Minister, has recently come under fire following some of his actions, especially with respect to the welfare of youth corps members.

He was a journalist before his appointment as a state commissioner in Kwara state from where he became a minister.

A special adviser to the minister, Mr Ohimai Godwin Amaize, made a personal statement on the issue via twitter, saying, “In spite of not having executed his first budget in office as Youth Minister, Mallam Abdullahi broke new grounds in youth development.”

Unconfirmed reports say that Mallam Inuwa Abdulkadir who was today sworn in as a minister is to take over as the new Minister of Youth Development. Abdulkadir was commissioner for justice and attorney general of Sokoto state before his new appointment.
