This is when Nigeria’s 2016 budget will be passed

Owing to the discovery of new errors, duplication and inconsistencies in the 2016 budget, the document will not be ratified today as promised by the National Assembly.

Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, revealed on Wednesday, that the 2016 budget will be passed on Tuesday, March 22.

After passage on March 22, Ndume noted that a clean copy will be sent to President Muhammadu Buhari on, March 23.

Following the presentation of the budget by President Buhari on December 22, 2015, the Appropriation Committees of the two chambers of the National Assembly had assured Nigerians that the N6.08 trillion 2016 budget would be passed on February 25.

When that failed to happen as a result of the initial series of errors discovered, the passage was pushed forward to March 17, but that now appears unlikely.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, however, informed journalists that the budget will be laid today.

Abdullahi, a member of the Appropriation Committee, revealed that after laying the budget, only administrative work will be needed.

“God willing. we are laying the budget tomorrow (today). I can assure Nigerians that the budget will be laid tomorrow(today). That tells you that a lot of work has been done on the budget.”

“All is almost set for the laying of the 2016 budget tomorrow (today) in the senate chamber as we have promised Nigerians and with that, one or two processes that are required will take place and we will have our budget as promised.”
