“Cock Crow at Dawn” actor Ignis Ekwe has passed away

In another industry loss, we can confirm the death of veteran actor Ignis Ekwe who died on Monday. Ekwe reportedly died of a brief illness in Benin, and actress and niece to the late thespian Yvonne Jegede took to Instagram to mourn his demise.

Ekwe became a household name in Nigeria in the ‘80s and ‘90s for his compelling acts on screen and was famous for starring in the NTA serial Cock Crow at Dawn, a project that was developed by United Bank of Africa to promote interest in farming.

He also starred in the Televista flagship soap opera Everyday People, helmed by Tajudeen Adepetu and the Nollywood flick Igodo. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Edo-born actor was a scriptwriter and lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Auchi Polytechnic, Edo until the time of his death.
