Red Media, parent company for ynaija.com, yesterday September 4, 2011 held a sendoff party for Damilola Oyedele, it’s erstwhile online editor at Brown Café in Ikeja. Oyedele, a graduate of Economics from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with her vision, drive and innovation brilliantly led the YNaija team from inception.
The intimate gathering stirred up emotions, excitement, sadness, and of course, tons of laughter. The afternoon began with an exciting 30-minute edition of Y! TV at Channels Television, before the train moved from the television station in Isheri to the Brown Café on Oduduwa crescent in Ikeja. Team members took time out to shower encomiums on Dami, as Oyedele is fondly called, with each member recounting how she has affected their lives. Most emotional of all was Yemi Olowu, Assistant Style Editor, who said he had developed a bond with her and was going to miss her the most.
Chude Jideonwo, Managing Partner of Red Media, was the last to speak. He re-affirmed the fact that Dami had been a blessing to the organization, and that although management was sorry to see her leave, he was glad that she had perfectly mirrored the brand and left a strong impact behind. Hers are big shoes to fill! Abidemi Dairo, however, has stepped into them.
An overwhelmed Damilola could not stop thanking the Y! team and management for making her year.
“I’m saying a big thank you for this party,” she beamed. “God bless, increase and honour you all greatly.”
She confessed that she had learnt a lot from her experience with Y!, and has grown in her personal and professional life. Y! wishes Dami all the best!
Oyedele now takes up the freelance role of Assistant Editor, Arts & Lifestyle, and her pieces will continue to appear on Y!/YNaija.com. Follow Dami’s adventures on Twitter – @DamiOyedele
