‘Don’t blame FG for the economic woes of Nigeria’

Senator Ita Enang, a Senior Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Assembly, has urged Nigerians to refrain from blaming the Federal Government for the economic crunch bedeviling the nation.

Speaking with journalists in Uyo on Monday, the Senator said other factors like the fall in the prices of crude oil is inadvertently responsible for the current economic challenges.

“Do not blame the Federal Government for the economic woes of the country. The FG should not be blamed; this is caused by the falling crude prices in the international market.”

Enang also stated that the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government has planned the economy based on non-oil exports as a result of the dwindling fortune of crude oil.

He however, opposed the assertion that the government does not have an economic policy.

Senator Enang noted that the party’s policies were contained in the APC manifesto, the published economic agenda of the party and the 2016 budget as passed by the National Assembly.

He further stated that agriculture was Nigeria’s highest employer of labour, stressing that the Muhammadu Buhari administration would pay much attention to the sector.

“Much of what Nigerians have been surviving on is what you get from under the ground and not from the surface of the ground. We are not taking advantage of the agricultural potential that we have,” he added.
