Elections postponed – again!

By Sola Fasasi

Following pressure from political parties, especially the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced another postponement to the National Assembly elections. The elections will no longer hold on Monday, April 4th.

The National Assembly polls now hold April 9th Presidential polls hold April 16 and the State Assembly/Governorship pols hold on Tuesday, April 26 (because the 22nd falls on the weekend of Easter.)

The INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, said in a statement that the commission was advised to move the date one more time to deal with  issues that arose from Saturday, also revealing that more than 15 million people had voted before elections were cancelled yesterday.

This means that there is no longer any restriction on movement nationally tomorrow.

More updates as the story unfolds.
