Emmy Awards 2017: Full list of winners

The 69th Emmy Awards held on September 17 and honoured the best TV series and performances that aired between June 2016 and May 2017.

Online platforms like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu took up more than 120 nominations between them, with Netflix’s Stranger Things coming in as one of the most-nominated shows of the year – earned 18 different Emmy nominations, second only to Saturday Night Live and HBO’s Westworld, each of which stood at 22 nominations.

This year’s streaming shows accounted for four of the seven nominees for Outstanding Drama Series, two of the picks for Outstanding Comedy Series, and programs like The Handmaid’s TaleHouse of Cards, and Master of None have earned praise in nearly every major category.

However, in winnings, the biggest stories were HBO’s Big Little Lies winning five awards, in the Outstanding Miniseries, Outstanding Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress in a Miniseries categories, Outstanding Directing in a Miniseries, and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries categories.

The other huge winner of the night was freshman series and first-time nominee The Handmaid’s Tale. The show won five awards: Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series, and Outstanding Writing in a Drama series, in addition to Ann Dowd winning Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and Elisabeth Moss winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Combined with Alexis Bledel’s previous win for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama, a cinematography award, and a production design award, which were announced at last week’s Creative Arts Emmys, the show racked up eight Emmys total.
