EXCLUSIVE: Pat Utomi drops out of Presidential race, endorses Shekarau

by Sola Fasasi

Speaking to the presenters on a particularly inspiring episode of Y! TV’s Rubbin’ Minds a few weeks ago, Presidential aspirant Professor Pat Utomi let on that in a few weeks, he would be making an important announcement to the people of Nigeria on March 30. The day has come! Just one day after dazzling Nigerians on the Broadcasting Society of Nigeria’s Presidential Debate and trending locally, today, at a meeting in Victoria Island Lagos, Utomi declared that he would be dropping out of the Presidential race.

In a moving speech, he commended All Nigeria People’s Party Candidate Ibrahim Shekarau, and declared his endorsement of the latter’s presidential campaign. In a few moments YNaija will release the EXCLUSIVE transcript of the speech he gave early this morning.

In the meantime, we leave you with the last two paragraphs of the powerful speech:

“I remain committed to institution building and will work with any person of goodwill to build a new Nigeria.  In that regard one of my discoveries on this journey has been Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau who I commend to my friends and supporters.

I want also to take this moment to commend public life, true citizenship, to professionals and young people. Until they can make it their business much harm will continue to be done.  It may be untidy at first.  Unkind comments from people you would normally not engage with will drive you to the safety of your comfort zone but do not retreat, it is part of the price of nation building.  Be assured that history will ultimately vindicate you.”

Keep it locked to YNaija.com for his full speech – coming in a few minutes.
