Timi Frank- Lai Mohammed’s successor as APC spokesperson- is greatly disgruntled

Ever since the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed left his former job as spokesperson of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, a silent crisis has been brewing in the party.

The deputy national publicity secretary of the party, Timi Frank, who was supposed to step into Mohammed’s role, has been effectively sidelined.

Frank, finally speaking out, says that the party’s national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun and national secretary, Mallam Mai-Mala Buni are breaching the party’s constitution by taking over functions assigned to his office.

While speaking to pressmen at his house in Abuja on Monday, January 11, Frank stated his displeasure at the practice of other officers of the party performing the publicity secretary’s job.

Timi Frank who was next in line to the former Publicity secretary of the party, Lai Mohammed, feels he ought to occupy his former boss’ seat.

However, it would seem that the party chieftains are reluctant to upgrade Frank to the position of Publicity Secretary as he has time after time proven to be a little uncensored with his comments and making statements that indicts the party leadership.

However, according to the constitution of the party, Frank should have automatically assumed the position of Publicity secretary when Lai Mohammed quit the position to be a minister.

Speaking on the issue, Frank said: “I have kept quite for too long on this issue. I have approached my national chairman times without number and l have approached the elders of my party regarding this. I have even written an official letter regarding this, to allow me exercise my right as the acting national publicity secretary of the party.”

“So, if the leadership of the party today knows that what they are doing is very, very wrong and if they think they want to continue to sit down and appoint a national publicity secretary, one day, even the chairman would sit down there and some people would appoint the national chairman for the party without following due process.”

“It is very risky for anyone that is perpetrating this act within the party, that does not want to give me my right. It is my right. So, if as a party, we cannot acknowledge the office of deputies, we should scrap them.”

“The constitution of our party is very clear and automatically l should be the spokesperson of my party. If the leadership of the party today fails to do what is right, Nigerians are watching. If my party cannot recognize my office as deputy spokesperson, then we should scrap the office.”

“The National Chairman knows that it is wrong for him to be speaking, when he knows that he has a Deputy National Publicity Secretary just as the national secretary knows that it is wrong for him to be speaking when he knows that there is a Deputy National Publicity Secretary.”
