On Friday, E! reported that Jhene Aiko had filed for divorce from her American-Nigerian producer-husband Oladipo Omisore aka Dot da Genius, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.

This came few months after Dot da Genius revealed on her birthday in March that they were married with a photo of the secret wedding ceremony which according to court documents reportedly obtained by E! happened in July 26, 2014.

So far, the report has not been well received by Nigerians as they have attacked Jhene Aiko on Twitter for doing such to one of their own especially with the cause of the divorce being ascribed to her flirtatious relationship with Big Sean over the last few months.

The American R’n’B singer has however tried to defend the divorce saying she is ‘glad to be free from all the drugs, depression and confrontation’ she faced while being married to Dot. She also said that Dot had left her since and people should realise that she is the victim here and not him.

While Dot Da Genius himself has tried to calm the situation, Nigerians are still flaring up but we need to ask ourselves if Jhene does deserve all the bashing she’s getting?

Well let’s look at the facts and reports here before we decide that.

First of all, the court documents reportedly obtained by E! says the couple have actually been separated since June 2015 and so Jhene Aiko’s claim of Dot being the first to jump ship might just hold water.

Secondly, it was during the period of their reported separation, Dot revealed they were married.  He did this on her 28th birthday in March; sending her a beautiful emotional birthday message on Instagram. It could well be that he was trying to use the opportunity to reach out to her because he later deleted the post and Jhene’s pictures off the micro-blogging website.

Thirdly, in order not to throw him under the bus or invite third party into their business she might have decided not to say anything about their break-up at the time; trying to protect him; something we saw with the Tiwa-TeeBillz situation back home in Nigeria. Remember how Tee Billz used to go on social media to praise his ‘wife’ and even fight people who he deemed were rude to the Mavin singer only to find out later that he and Tiwa had separated during the same period.

Amid her separation from Dot, her relationship with Big Sean might just have turned serious and in order to rub it in Dot’s face, she decided to throw caution to the winds by publicly expressing her love for Big Sean and even engaging in a few PDA’s with the Detroit rapper. Meanwhile in April 2016 – a month after Dot declared he and Jhene had tied the knot, Jhene Aiko told Flaunt magazine she was still single.

This is where a lot of people saw something wrong as they feel while she was cheating on Dot with Big Sean, she was still legally married.

They also opine that instead of engaging in such a public fling with Big Sean she should have tried to make things work with Dot.

However, whatever side we are on, let’s know that in the end love wins and Jhene might just have fallen out of love for Dot and tripped into loving Big Sean.
