Jonathan cancels Switzerland trip

President Goodluck Jonathan has cancelled his earlier scheduled trip to Switzerland for the annual World Economic Forum. Sources in the Presidency disclosed that the President decided to cancel the trip because of the ongoing attacks by terrorists, Boko Haram in the country, especially the events of last Friday in Kano City, and Sunday in Bauchi.

It was gathered that the Presidency said that going on the trip could pass across a message to Nigerians that the President does not care about what is going on in the country.

The main purpose of attending the forum, which is to woo investors to Nigeria, has been defeated by the rise in the activities of Boko Haram. “How do you go and start talking with investors when the atmosphere at home is not conducive? Who will want to come and invest in the country when security cannot be guaranteed?” the source said.

“I can tell you authoritatively that the advance team for the trip, which was scheduled to leave this evening has been asked to return home.

“The President has vowed to move speedily against the group because its activities are not only embarrassing the country and causing thousands pain and anguish, but it is also slowing down the investment drive of the government.”

The World Economic Forum, which is held annually, provides Heads of Governments the opportunity to interact and woo investors to their respective country.
