UTME holds in Yobe amidst tight security

The  Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination was held without any security hitches across all centers in Yobe state.

The exam was held in major towns of the state including  Damaturu, Gashua, Potiskum, and Geidam.

According to reports, those who monitored the exams in Damaturu and Potiskum observed that heavy security measures were taken as candidates were screened from the gate of the institution by stern-looking security men even before they got to the venue of the exams. Read more.….

Supreme Court again stops Lagos bid to collect VAT

Lagos State Government on Friday suffered a setback on its quest to wrestle the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) in the state from the Federal Government.

The Supreme Court struck out the appeal filed by the Lagos government challenging the power of the Federal Government to assess and collect Value Added Tax (VAT) on supply of all goods and services within its constitutionally defined jurisdiction. Read more

Arms firm found in Enugu

The police in Enugu have discovered an arms manufacturing company located at Ihuoha Amansiodo Oghe in Ezeagu local Government Area of Enugu state.

According to a police bulletin signed by its spokesman in Enugu, Ebere Amaraizu, the factory was allegedly run by “an operator identified as one Ejike Eze who also manufactures the gun for the use of suspected hoodlums”.

Eze was said to have escaped during a raid on the arms factory. His lover, identified as Juliet Nwachukwu in whose home some of the equipment and guns were found was arrested. Read more….

Boko Haram kills 8 teachers, 11 others in Maiduguri

At least 19 people have been killed within 48 hours (Thursday and Friday) in Borno State by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect whom may to have resumed killings weeks after the Maiduguri Giwa barracks attack, eyewitnesses and security operatives confirmed.

LEADERSHIP Weekend had it on good authority that the Boko Haram gunmen had on Thursday evening invaded Dikwa village (130km away from Maiduguri) and attacked a college where they killed eight teachers and fled with some women. Read more…..

Dickson sacks two commissioners

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has sacked two commissioners from the state executive council following  the scrapping of the Ministry of Capital City Development and the splitting of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development, and the Ministry of Energy.

The affected commissioners are James Dugo of Local Government and Community Development and Barrister Zuwa Konugha of Capital City Development Ministry. Read more…..
