“June 12 is not just a story, Abiola was killed with Abuja tea” – Fani Kayode (WATCH)

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode says we should regard June 12 as more than a story as that annulled election of 1993 was the ‘freest and fairest’ election till date.

He said this in a programme on AIT (People, Politics and Power), while speaking about the incidents during and after the June 12, 1993 election on Wednesday.

MKO Abiola, who was arrested and detained after declaring himself president, died in custody on July 7, 1998 in Abuja.

Fani-Kayode insisted that the military government in power at that period murdered him.

He said that that event led to increased debate on democracy, describing MKO Abiola and his wife, Kudirat as true heroes and martyrs of democracy.
