When Whitney Houston passed away, she had just finished wrapping up work on the movie ‘Sparkle’; her first movie in over 15 years. The last movie Houston acted in was the 1997 made-for-TV “Cinderella” in which she played a fairy godmother and her last theatrical release was ‘The Preacher’s Wife’ in 1996 where she played a pastor’s wife alongside Denzel Washington.
According to movie indexing website IMDB, ‘Sparkle’ is “Set in the 1960s, three sisters form a girl group which soon becomes a Motown sensations, but fame becomes a challenge as the close-knit family begins to fall apart.” Houston plays their mother, a singer whose career ended badly.
The movie also stars American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, Cee-Lo, Mike Epps, and Terrence Jenkins.
