Liverpool defender, Mamadou Sakho tests positive for banned substance

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has tested positive for a banned substance – which is believed to be a fat burning drug.

Sakho was reportedly unaware of the composition of the supplement, which he had been using for some time.

Although the 26-year-old has not been suspended by the club, he did not feature in his club’s premier league match against Newcastle United.

Liverpool FC released a statement on Saturday afternoon, to explain the situation with Sakho.

“Yesterday, Friday 22nd April 2016, a formal communication was received from UEFA stating that they are investigating a possible anti-doping rule violation by Mamadou Sakho.”

“”The player will respond to UEFA on the matter. The player is currently not subject to any playing suspension. However, the club, in consultation with the player, has decided that while this process is followed the player will not be available for selection for matches.”
