Militants blow up Escravos pipeline

by Chi Ibe

A section of the Escravos gas trunkline behind Salvation City, near Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West local government area of Delta state has been blown up by Niger Delta militants this morning.

The facility belongs to phase two of the Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline owned by the Nigerian Gas Company Limited.

The Lagos pipeline had been attacked in February, resulting in the shortage of 3,132 megawatts (Mw) of electricity, and difficulties for operators of power generation plants, as well as disrupting the supply of gas from Oleso Creek.

It would be remembered that the Niger Delta Avengers gad last week given all oil companies operating in the delta two weeks to shut down or be attacked.

This will be a major disruption for gas production in Nigeria.
