A 27-year-old man in Taraba has been arrested by the police and taken before a court on allegations of rape.
William Julius, was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Jalingo, the state capital, for having forceful sexual intercourse with a five-year-old girl.
The incident was reported by the victim’s father who accused the suspect of luring his little daughter into an uncompleted building where he then perpetrated the evil act.
The Eagle Online reports:
The accused, a resident of Abuja Phase 2 in Jalingo, however, denied the charge when read to him.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Godfrey Moses, told the court that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.
Moses further told the court that the rape incident was reported at the Taraba State Police Command by the victim’s father, Joseph Ubandoma, on December 25, 2013.
The prosecutor said the complainant told the police that the accused came to his residence and lured his daughter into an uncompleted building.
Ubandoma said the accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of her daughter without her consent, thereby causing her injuries.
Moses asked the court for a short adjournment of the case to enable him conclude investigation, given that the accused had denied the charge.The magistrate, Aliyu Baffa, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to January 20.
