Much ado about ‘I dos’ – ‘Mercy Johnson’s wedding will go on as planned’, says publicist

by Ada Igboanugo

Barely three weeks to the grand wedding ceremony between Mercy Johnson and Prince Odianose Okojie – with plans being cemented and invitation cards already being sent out – something bizarre occurred. An email went out, claiming that the proposed groom was in a previous marriage with two kids. Pictures of his registry wedding to Ms. Lovely Okojie and of him embracing his two children were found splattered all over online and print media. The saddened alleged wife, Lovely, went ahead to accuse Mercy Johnson – who is known for her risqué outfits and racy appearance – of husband snatching and bigamy.

Speculations say Mercy intended to call the wedding off as the rumours were all too much to bear. However according to fresh news, Mercy and her fiancé intend to go ahead as planned. Apparently, Mercy Johnson was well aware of Okojie’s former life before she accepted his marriage proposal, and not even pictures and claims can stop the couple from getting married. According to sources, The relationship between Prince Odianose and Lovely Okojie, ended five years ago, and Mercy Johnson’s marriage plans to Okojie have been in the open for a while. Odianose truly is the father of the girl in the pictures being spread all over the internet but there are doubts that he is the father of the boy. Odianose also claims he is a prince and can marry more than one wife under customary law.

In her bid to stop the marriage, Lovely Okogie has gone to Christ Embassy to demand that the marriage be stopped, but the Church has requested that she provides a marriage certificate to back up her claim but as at the time of this publication, Lovely is yet to come up with a tenable certificate.
While speculations are still arising and little is being confirmed, Mercy Johnson and Odi’s plans for the wedding remains the same, it will be a 4-day record breaking event that will run from August 25 to 28, 2011. The court wedding will hold on August 25th, Engagement on the 26th, the Church wedding and reception will be on 27th and then a Thanksgiving Service/Bride’s party on the 28th.

A statement was released via her publicist, confirming the new turn of events.

“This statement is necessary due to the fact that stories are making the rounds about cancellation of Mercy Johnson’s wedding.

We wish to state categorically that the wedding will go on as planned and Mercy is fully aware of situations on ground. We know some people are working real hard to see that the wedding is cancelled; we wish them luck and pray that God will be with us.

Our client will not be making any further statement on this matter.”
