Bradenton police officers were surprised to find a naked man, who said he thought he was in a motel, eating a snack and sprawled on the couch in the School District of Manatee’s Parent Information Center.

The officers responded to a tip of a burglary in progress at 10:19 p.m. Wednesday. The caller said that a man had broken in the building and appeared to be eating something, according to a Bradenton Police Department report.

The school district’s security team then arrived, turned off the alarm, and noticed a pane of glass had been broken out next to the entrance door, the report said.

Security then noticed the naked man on the couch, identified themselves and backed out to wait for the police.

Arriving officers took Barry Douglas White into custody and charged him with burglary on an unoccupied building, the report adds.

Police also believe that while he was inside the building, White damaged a video recorder located on the east wall.

White was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital. After being read his rights, White told police he thought he was at his rented room and could not explain why he thought his hotel was a school district building, the report said.
